Hi folks, here in the UK we had Case D tractors in small quantites and a lot have survived into presevation. A couple of questions, when did the clutch lever move from the right to the left and when did the engine get a flange mount mag. All the model D tractors had DEX on the serial number plate, am I right that DEX stood for export tractor. Many thanks MJ
 

The DEX does denote a Case D that was for export. As far as I know the hand clutch on the D series was always on the left side. The Case S had a right hand clutch lever. Someone else will have to help you with your other questions.
 
I just looked it up in "Full Steam Ahead." The clutch lever change was at tractor 4405303 and the magneto was at 4607033.
 
39 and 40 had clutch on right as well as pull back on lever to engage,forward to stop. Case D series used up much old C stock.
My 39 CC Has the C type head and rear basically its a C with road gear and styled appearance. It has a starter, however late C
tractors also had starters. I often wondered why CI tractors of early thirty vintage had starters while Clawson would not allow
farm tractors to have starters as an option ?
 
I've always thought the clutch lever was shifted when the brake pedals where both moved the right side with the addition of the live power take off and the Eagle Hitch with the live hyd pump. That's true with the SC. Not real sure if the DEX models followed suit
 
That is not true with the SC. The hand clutch lever was changed sometime in 51 from the right to the left. I have a late 51 with one brake pedal on the left and one on the right with the hand clutch lever on the left.
 
That is interesting. My 51 SC has the boss for the left hand clutch lever, but it is not drilled and tapped. It does not have provisions for the Eagle Hitch. Does yours? My 51 DC does have the bosses for the upper link of the Eagle HItch.
