Looking at a 3294 mfwd

Hello,
I am looking at a 3294 mfwd that is going up for auction around me. It looks to be in decent shape, with 7,700 hours. But the listing says it has some rear planetary issues. I can tell that one of the rear axle seals is leaking from the pictures.
My question, is planetary issues common with these? and how easily can they be repaired? I have very little experience with these tractors. Thanks in advance.

Martin

Rear planetary work will require a split. We have done a 3594 but replaced with a good one from the local salvage yard as CASE prices are way high. Depending on teeth, bushings and gears on the conservative side would be $2k easy just for new parts. Double that for shop labor if paying for it. Otherwise they are a dependable tractor. The planetaries give them the extra gears for powershift. Otherwise they are similar to the 2290 with 1-2-3-R powershift. This will have the 1/2-3/4-5/6-R. We actually used ours for a while just skipping the one planetary. Just shift from 1-3-5 quickly or unhook the solenoid to not engage the bad planetary. I doubt both planetaries are bad in the 3294 you are looking at.

Only 12 speed would only have planetary gears in the powershift drum Should be an easy fix then, But not sure how anyone could pin-point planetary problem without splitting it first. Maybe Mel or 1370Rod will chime in. Does it move at all? whining noise? Curious now.

I am not sure either, just what the listing says on the auction. The tractor is not far from me, if I am serious about it, I will go look at it.

Thank you,
Martin

When you mention planetary the first thing I think of is the axle planetary and since an axle seal is leaking that is suspect. Removing the axle housing is not difficult but until then it is a guess at what it will cost to fix.

I know of the tractor that you are speaking of. I bought a truck off the individual. He was planting last spring and the tractor stopped moving in the field, there was no power to the rear end so he unhooked from the planter and drove back to the farm with the FWA. Old local CASE dealer told him that it is a planetary issue.

looks to good to go down for Salvage !Might be the Splines on the Internal Stripped on the AXAL /Have seen it happen before on another MFD Tractor =If you could try it out before bidding =put it in DIFF Lock to see if it worked.might be an easy & cheep fix.?
