1070 3pt raises only when moving

what would cause 3pt to not raise when tractor is not moving but raises when travelling & rpm up? I haven't tried raising rpm sitting still but let's say the increased rpm would be the answer....what would be the culprit here?

The proper way to attack this problem would be to have a complete flo test done on the tractor. If it is a power shift the transmission has preference over the hydraulics and different clutches are used to provide the different powershift ranges. If it is a standard shift none of this applies.

If there is bad enough leakage in the clutches giving you drive it would starve the hydraulics making them weak.

A test that you could do that will help determine if that is part of the problem would be to have the implement attached, out of gear and lift the implement in each powershift position including clutch down and see if the lift is affected by clutch down or power shift range selection. More telling would be to have the tranny oil up to operating temp.

Sorry I forgot to mention the transmission type. This one is the manual 8-speed. I also have pto spinning issues, guessing I have warped clutch disks so I plan to attack this problem first. Then with a new filter & fluid I'll try to resolve this 3pt issue. Fluid now is quite "milky". How would I go about the pressure test & what is the pressure range? This is virgin "ground" for me so if I'm going about this backwards let me know. With the issues I have here, what would you address first? Thanks

Pressure testing is part of the process, it tells if the systems main relief is in good order, Unfortunately it is not telling the GPM the pump is capable of which is as important as PSI. 2000 LB PSI will do no work if the GPM is zero.

Being a 8 speed takes the transmission out of the equasion and gets us to the main hydraulic circuit components.

Generally a bad pump will function much better with cold oil so that could give you a clue, loss of function hot could indicate a weak pump.

Here again, a flo test at the remotes will be telling, If I were doing the test I would test the pump by disconnecting the output line of the large section and testing the flow without any other components in circuit. The flo meter return oil would be put back in the oil fill. This must be done carefully as deadheading it completely will split it wide open.

The next area to look at would be the dual remote valve paying particular attention to the relief valve components and orings and backup rings in the relief valve sleeve and top oring. If the hitch holds up when a load is on the arms sitting the piston packing is in all likelyhood ok.

About the only recourse as far as oil is concerned is to drain and replace it, If you plan a PTO repair its gotta come out of there anyway and the screen is on the rear casting that you will be removing.

When you get the pto out come back on forum and we can tell you what to look for. From personal experience if you want a pto that shuts off completely replace the brake no matter how it looks, all plates springs and orings and seals. Do not ask me how I know

Change the filter on the right side paying close attention to the relief cartridge that often sticks in the bottom of the filter.

Please do not cheap out on oil, please talk to Brokengun on this forum to get his experience with off brand oil.

This is a long post but you will have other questions as you progress so Ill let you digest this.

Thank you so much for ALL this info Mel. Greatly appreciated. Once I tear into the pto thing I'll keep you posted on this project. As far as pto parts to order I plan to get the 7 discs & spring washers & brake pad. Anything else I need other than these parts? Thanks.

There are metal sealing rings on the hub and brake release piston as well as piston seals and o rings, I would get all soft parts and new snap ring for the brake rod and a new roll pin for the brake piston.
