Press Fit Compounds?

Rebuilding 68' 680Ck and my tach gear just drops in the block. Anyone ever use press fit compound for this type of application as there is no seal. Sounds like the correct application, but no experience with these types of material. Any advice is appreciated.

if its not too loose, they make stud and bearing mount, a Permatex product that will keep it in,,, may have to use heat to remove it though, I am assuming it is a good fit but not a press fit anymore??

Thanks, did locate the Permatex bearing mount. Yes, it is a close fit, just not snug. Damn, they don't give that stuff away. Probably good material to have in the tool kit.

I use a Loctite product. The red color is the highest strength and would be very good for your application. It comes in two size containers. I buy the large container because I use a lot of it. Pricey but worth it. Heat to about 400 degrees to break the bond.

I clean the mating surfaces with mineral spirits and give plenty of time to dry. I coat both surfaces 100% using my finger. No sting. A coated surface can be left unassembled for around a minute but once the assembly starts you have about 30 seconds to finish.

If you want to test the red color for strength, take a new half inch bolt and Loctite a new nut to it using fingers and full thread engagement. Wait 24 hrs and then try to remove the nut. Standard torque is 75 lb ft. The bond is impressive.

Loctite 660 is their formula number for a "press fit repair" compound. I haven't used in a seal application so can't comment on it for that type of job you describe. It might be work a try though.
