case 1070 brakes

Purchases a case 1070 powershift the other day. Looks real good and runs great. Dealership completly rebuilt the trans. I have a question with the brakes as I have never owned a case before. The brakes work but you have to push what I believe is real hard for them to work. They do stop the tractor and they do hold. See to take several feet for it to stop. Is there an adjustment, could it need new pads, any help is appreciated. Love the tractor.

On anther note I am working on the cab dash such as heater, AC, wiper, and radio. Not to concerned about most stuff except for wiper and radio. Which side of the cab should the wiring be coming down. Front or back. I would like to make the radio and windshield wiper work again.

As I understand the 1070 could have had either hydrostatic brakes where hydraulic pressure from the hydraulic system applied the brakes, or regular hydraulic brakes like what a car has. Back when I had a 1070 the Case dealer told me the regular hydraulic brakes were better. There might be a serial # break? The 1070 I had used hydrostatic brakes and the braking power was very good with little pedal effort.

This 1070 has hydrostatic brakes. Hydraulic fluid is used to active the brakes. When tractor is not running you have no brakes at all. When running have to push the pedal pretty hard and takes a while for it to stop.

On a couple early serial number units I have had to replace the snap ring in the power brake booster piston, it is located out toward the tin on the RH side of the cowl underneath a plug. On those units the snap ring unseated and allowed the internal parts of the piston to just float, nothing can get out of the end of the bore.

Do you get any hydraulic type sounds when you push the brakes? does turning the steering cause any kickback on the brake pedals. Generally speaking the power brake boosters were fairly trouble free. make sure the external brake adjustments and shims are correct and the arms not frozen in the pivot pin for the rocker assembly. You may consider professional help if you have never tackled this type job before.

A good Case service manual would be invaluable.

I have worked on many tractors but first time for a case. Steering doesnt seem to affect the brakes. I can steer and press brakes at the same time. nothing differernt happens. I did start the 1070 yesterday to move it. When I pressed the brakes to stop I noticed the peddle was jumping a bit. My guess is it needs fluid. I will also check the snap ring. My only other thought is that it needs new brake pads.
