TCH -TFD- Hy-Tran

I was looking through a 1979 CASE Counter Catalog, under "Lube", & found all this interesting. TFD was listed as a 20W Fluid. Recommended for all the '70 Series, Power Shift or not, except the 1470. Even in the 570 Case-O-Matic, although I've never seen one. In '30 Series C-O-M they recommend TCH.
In the 2390 & 2590 they recommend TFD-2 which is a 15W30. "Not recommended for any other CASE models".
TCH is thinner than TFD, but I cannot find the weight. TCH is still available, but when the part number for TFD is entered into the system, it subs to Hy-Tran, which has recently been reformulated.

good info,,, I switched over to Hy-Tran in the mid 90's,,,, Not one single issue, I run in in PS COM PS and standard trans as well as power steering fluids and hydraulics,,, I am sure I will be jumped on like usual but that's fine My equipment my way
cnt

You are right casenutty. My dad always said oil is oil. You can imagine what we have seen drained out of salvage tractors over the years.

good question ,, I have a 1962 ,730, the hydraulix are served by the transmission fluid and the oils are shared ,,when I got itabout 10 yrs ago it had 90 wt oil that was probably a couple yrs old ,,. I was told to change to 10 or 20 wt ,, than I was told not to ,, so I did neither since the lifts worked fine and the oil lookt clean ... over the yrs I mite have added 2-3 gallon of jd 303 hydro oil ,.. lately the 3 pt stopped lifting quikly and would not lift a bale of hay and the remotes seem to be pikin up air ,, gonna start by draing the tranny , then clean the filtrr ,,not sure whether to simply put 30 wt in the 730 or jd 303 , or regular common cheap tsc hydro oil.. it is dual range .if it were c-o-m hi dollar hy tran would be a no brainer ,,

You didn't ask, but I hate to see you not take care of the ol'e girl. Hy-Tran has "EP" properties to protect the gearing, shafts & bearings, as well as anti-foaming properties for the hydraulics. SAE 30 has none of that. In your dual range tranny, the best of everything would be Hy-Tran with 85W140 to thicken it up. 85W140 also has the "EP" properties. How much 85W140 you add would depend on your climate & how much you use it in cold weather.

Thanx for Your Concern John ,,. I got the 730 before I discovered the Brain Trust Here ,, And I SINCERELY mean That ,,. You Guys have kept me Goin . since I run DC s since I was a pup ,.I was always concerned that the fluid would not be heavy enuf for the tranny,, btw?.. what does the 800 need to have in its gear tranny?from the bell housing back there are 3 oil cmpartments ,, I know to use hytran in the c-omatic ,, and just as well in the hydraulic sump as well ,.. But not sure on the gear tranny ? .with the 730 pumpin air ,, I would hope a good cleaning may help ,,. but since it kinda happened all at once I been wondered if a sump tube was loose ,, just thinkin ,and I don't know where to look ..? it ll have to wait til crops are binned.anyway ...today James and I had to tear down the 6 row massey corn head , bearing and a chewed up gear ,,. luky for us we have a 2 row wide head for parts ..

In the 800 Tranny & Differential, I recommend 85W140. As for the 730 picking up air, I don't know. Like you said, start w/ the normal procedures, and hopefully you will not need to go deeper. However, that would not be my luck!!
