Serial Numbers

Just finished restoring my Dad's 46 VAC, serial no 5057214, block no VT149, Head no VT148, one piece manifold assy. From what I can find out, its an early model, but no number on the block anywhere. Supposed to be on right side at rear of block just behind the oil filter assy. Is this common or not?? Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Jim.

Look above the starter, top of block right below the cylinder head gasket. Horizontal stamping.

Thanks for your response Joe. Nope, can't find a number anywhere on the block. Had it stripped down to bare cast before painting and I am puzzled about this. Can't remember Dad ever replacing block, had new sleeves and pistons and rod bearings installed in 1953, and that was last time eng was opened until just this year.

Best to ya.

Jim.

There should be numbers stamped on the flat pad between the starter and the head left of the distributor as noted earlier. I could not see mine until I used a paint scraper to remove the paint from the casting. The information stamped here is very light on mine. Remember what you find here will not be the tractor serial number like what is found on others like the SC or DC. The service manual will explain what is stamped and its meaning

Thanks kevsdodge. Looked again. I had the block down to bare cast before painting and could find no engine # anywhere. There is no flat pad above starter and below head either. I can't find any number anywhere on the block. Not like my 31 Chevy where I have eng cast date and eng serial. If I can get my daughter to help, will take some pictures and post them. Thanks again.

Jim.
