2290 oil leaking around shift levers

Never been into a 90 series tranny. Mine has a good leak around were the
Shift levers go into the tranny. Just wondering is this can be fix from outside
Or is it like the inner pto oring that is also leaking and to fix that I gotta remove
Half the internal workings of the pto cover?

You are correct in assuming it is time consuming,shift lever has to be removed from the inside,53 cent o-ring,i have seen guys add O-rings to the outside and put levers back on w/mixed results.
