Got everything marked and loosened up.Timing pin pushed in. pump wont come back and out off
the studs..Is there something holding it on the drive gear?? Like a retaining nut??? how do
you get it off?? Thanks in advance.

If it's a Bosch VE pump on a Cummins there's a nut and washer to remove from the drive gear, and then use the two threaded holes through a plate to push the shaft from the gear. DO NOT use bolts too long, or pump will be damaged next to the pilot/seal area on the aluminum housing.

Sorry should have said CAV rotary pump on a 580 Super E. Its a 4-390 model engine. There is A circular tin cap on the other side of the housing that would allow access to the gear from the front. I am not sure how to remove it..The manual I have is not specific. It is 4-390 model.Thank-you Diesel Tech for your helpful response.

The CAV pump comes off same as the Bosch VE on Cummins 3.9 and 5.9 engines. Every one I've seen had the hole capped held by a rubber grommet that just pried out. Some trucks had the crankcase vent there, and those turned out. When you get it off the two bolts that thread in the gear for the puller plate will be metric thread too.
