Can't get my vac to turn over. Have an 8 volt battery in it. Voltmeter showing it's fully charged. Is there a way to jump the starter button? Don't know if that's the problem or not. Not an expert in electrical issues. Thanks for the help.

(quoted from post at 03:25:19 09/02/15) Is the engine stuck ?? Give it a tow, or crank it by hand.
o. I tried starting it about 6 months ago and it turned over fine. That's why I can't figure out what happened in 6 months time.

What is voltage across battery when you engage the starter button. Batteries can show charged but fail under load.

Be sure battery cables are in good condition and connections and battery ground are clean and tight

What are voltages into and out of starter button when you press it?

How are you charging the 8 volt battery?

check bat volts under load.

IE. put meter across battery, then get on and hit start button.. you may see volts drop to nothing

Try turning the engine with a hand crank, in 6 months you never know. 8 volts is unusual, if you have a six volt starter, you should be fine, but if someone has rewound the starter it could be 12 volts. Finally, take an ohm meter, put it across the starter switch terminals with the battery disconnected, press the starter switch and the Ohm meter should read 0.

Turns out my 8 volt battery was bad. So I replaced it with a 6 volt. Tractor will barely turn over. The positive lead and the push button starter get really warm. Tried hand cranking it. Still nothing. What next?

Warm means bad wire or connection.

Might have bad ground to frame, bad wires, bad terminals, etc.
