Bought me a Case

SC I think. The tag is missing. Couple of questions. Did any come from the factory painted like this? Any I have seen were all one color. Oil filter is in the pan Behind this cover? No dipstick, but a petcock to check oil? I have a 509 power unit, but this is my first Case tractor. Oliver has been my drug of choice so far.

Should be all Flambeau Red. There should be a serial number stamped on the driver's left side on the engine flange. Take the first two digits and subtract four to determine the year.

Indeed an SC! To get you started, on the left side ,find where the motor flange meets the clutch housing flange. Copy the stamped numbers down. There are seven numbers are stamped vertical on the motor flange. the first two numbers ,for example 57xxxxx must be subtracted minus 4.Thus you would have a 53 Case SC. Let us know what your serial number is. Others here shortly will answer the other questions you have ...congrats! Chuck

Based on the features of the tractor that are shown in your pictures, it is an SC made sometime between 1947 and 1951. There is no oil filter on your tractor, it was an option. The plate on the side of the pan is attached to the oil pickup screen. Removing the plate allows you to wash out the screen. Yes, the petcock is used to check the oil. If you open the petcock and oil comes out, then you are good to go. If oil doesn't come out, then add some at the cap in front of the magneto until it does. Dealers and owners often repainted tractors to match new models. Your color scheme was the new Case color scheme in the mid-fifties. Also, the SC has a wet clutch (using engine oil), so don't be surprised to find the clutch housing full of oil. Also, you need to drain the bell housing when you change the engine oil.

That is a nice SC. I have two, a 41 and a 48.

The fenders and the hydraulics make me think it is a 49, Maybe 50 but I'm leaning towards 49. The fenders were different in 51.

I'm pretty sure oil filters were standard equipment late 42 on. Someone may have taken it off. The block should have the mountings for an oil filter. Could be the block is not original.

None of the SC's had the two tone paint job. very common to find them painted that way.

Thanks for all the responses. Checked the serial # this morning. 51xxxxx so a 47? Another question. What imp. was used on this hitch? This is not the eagle hitch, right?

mikesell said it well ,, looks like a sc that aged gracefully enuf in some ones caring hands over the yrs ,, should get along well with the oliversyou like and keep you liking olivers ... they and molines are like cuzins to case imo ... now if that was DC you bought you might start another LUV affair... congrats ,, enjoy

Nope, that's not an eagle hitch. Eagle hitch came out in 52. I can't recall the name of that hitching system.

Case made several implements for that hitch.those two brackets with the large holes are for a front lift cultivator. I have a two row lister for my 48.

Your tractor must have the hydraulic conversion kit Case offered for tractors built before 1949.

My 1948 has the mechanical lift.

Here is a photo of my mechanical lift. There are two large springs that help with the lifting.

I will get a pic oh my lister after the grass dries a little.

When had my sc I added a lift mechanism like that one. I used the mechanical linkage that runs off of the pto but you have one with a hydraulic cylinder. You will find if take a class one three point implement and put longer lift points on them both facing to to the right or left it will fit that hitch. They are available at tsc. I used a turnbuckle for the third point attached to the hitch. Kind of a jerry rig but it works, the implement will be off center by a couple of inches. I had a 6 foot blade on mine one of the light duty ones from tsc. Plowed snow with it for years.

eagle hitch came on the sc in 51,,your tractor is 1947 with hydro lift for cultivator mostly , a mower ,maybe 2 pt planter , and possibly grader blade ,,,
