A local equipment dealer has a case 1594 that looks pretty rough. The tires are pretty much junk. It has no cab or canopy. The dealer has had it for 2 or 3 years he says everything worked when they traded it in, but the moment I hand him money its my baby and he doesn't want to hear about it. He wants $4500 for it which seems high to me what is a fair price on this machine.

6-7 cents a pound depending on where you are at.

Is it 4x4?

That said, before scrapping it, there are probably lots of good parts that could be salvaged to repair other, better, David Browns.

They weren't a terrible tractor, when they are running, but are a long way from a good one.

Hi Making it somebody elses baby would be my thoughts to. I had a dealer wanted to sell me one to recondition as my first tractor when I moved to Canada. it had issues and he wanted $15.000 for it 15 years ago. I figured out what he was at, trying to bankrupt my new business on the first tractor. They didn't want me in there area selling used tractors, they tried a few times to put me out of bussiness before i quit on my own accord, due to no money in it anymore. I just kinda looked at him and said is that as bigger pile a junk here like most of them were in the U.K. the look on his face was kinda the end of that deal.
I hear now some parts are getting expensive if available at all, and if its had a hard life and got hydra shift trans run forest run!.
Regards Robert

There are several listed on tractor house 1/2 of them are listed as mechanics special $3500 to 4500. In the 22+ years I was in the farm tire business I came across 1 and the owner was not happy with it.

Based on your description it does seem on the high end. Is it a synchromesh or a hydra shift transmission? We have quite a few case/ David browns in our fleet including 3 1594's. They can be a good tractor if taken care of and serviced properly. Seems like most I come across have not and thus left a bad impression on owner/operators. Most people don't even know how to properly shift the HS transmissions. We bought a 1490 HS at an auction last year that looked like hell but starts, runs, and shifts like new for only $2500. Was a great deal for 80 hp tractor. Attached is a photo of one of our 15's that we restored last year.

A 1490 is only 70hp pto. They detuned(from the 82 that a 1410 was)them because they were having trouble getting the power they expected out of the 1690s.

I stand corrected RGMartin. I was remembering a test result of 78-79 hp we had on the dyno last year but after thinking twice about recall that it was from a 1412 we had just done some work on.

Still a good value. These neglected DBs will do an incredible amount of work for very little money. Been baling straw with a fleet of them for the last couple weeks. 1210 on haybine, 780 on rake, 990 on baler, 1290 shuttling wagons around.

Glad to hear of other people in the U.S. Still using these tractors regularly! Would love to see some pictures. You wouldn't happen to be the same guy who goes by the username "richbug" on the DBTC site?

That is me.

Photo of my 10 year old trying to kill me. He doesn't turn around very often. Making a bale every 7-8 strokes, not much time for pictures.
