530 puking coolant

Gentleman, I am in need of your expert opinion. I have a 530 backhoe with a 188 diesel. Sometimes when i start it up it will puke coolant out of the overflow and radiator cap. If I shut it off and let it stop gurgling and bubbling and restart it then it will be fine for the rest of the day. Sometimes at start up it will not do it at all until I rev the engine. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what may be going on. Thanks Craig

It sounds like you either have thermostat problems, or a leaking/blown head gasket. Is there any water in the oil? I would check the head bolt torque first, and then take a look at the thermostat. How long have you been having the problem?
