Case 770 hydraulics

Hello, I recently bought a Case 770 with the mechanical transmission. I was trying it round baling some hay yesterday when my auxiliary remotes quit working as they should. Everything was working fine when it quit opening the baler to dump a bale. I am thinking it may be low on fluid and going to add some today to try it but, I thought I would get on here and ask about it too since I have only had the tractor for a couple of weeks. I am assuming there is no dipstick for hydraulic fluid (since I can't find one) just the gauge on the dash lets you know how things are. This tractor is a very good running tractor and I like it. Just disappointed that I had the issue yesterday and I hope low fluid is all it is. Thanks for any help you can give.

Thank you for your help. I am still getting to know this machine. I will check things out this afternoon.

Just a quick thought, you said you are new to this tractor. Did the hoses somehow get switched wrong? The circuits are Top & Bottom, in that the Top Left & Top Right are 1 circuit, & the 2 bottom hoses, Left & Right are another. If both hoses are hooked up on 1 side, they will not work.

John brought up a good point with how yoy have the hoses hooked. If your oil level is low, you will also loose your steering function, and power brakes if so equiped.

Dennis,
Thanks for your responce. I am not doing as well as I would like. I have to carry nitro pills, and need to use them more than I would like.
I think that I have a filter in my hydraulic system that disintigrated and the debrie is getting into my PS/PB valve and also screwing up my powershift valve and my tranny tries to go in two gears at once. That makes my pump pressure skyrocket and my motor lug down.

I have it hooked up correctly. The sight glasses are hard to see through. I put a little fluid in it and it seemed to do okay. It was slow retracting the cylinder after but was pretty strong extending the cylinder. I think I will change filter too since I am not sure how long the filter has been on it. Yesterday, when I had the issue the remote couplings were very hot. Could that be from lack of fluid flow?

I just noticed something while checking things out. I am using the inside lever ( the lower outlets) While tractor is running the outside lever vibrates back to the raise position is it possible that this is causing it to maybe overheat? It does go all the way into the engaged position and pulls down the engine. I am going to tie it to stay in the neutral position and see what happens.

If it is so low that the Hyd's are not working, you are putting the whole tranny in serious and expensive jeapordy. if the sight glasses are so fogged you can't see, take the top one out & fill until oil reaches that opening. It has been a while, but I think a 13/16" socket will unthread it.

golly loren ,glad to hear you are still kikn , I know you are speakinof your health condition when describing filters and soforth ,, sure can appreciate your humor in referring to your health as akin to a 30 series power shift,.. just only wisht you were not that seriously ill ,,..every now and then when I get to hackin , thio valley crud out of my lungs ,, I tell my sara toget my carburetor cleaner ,,PEACH brabdy , wisht I had a grease zerk to grese on my ankles , hips , knees and elbows ,. LOL ,,. gotta tell you that wd -40 appliedto my elbow and rubbed in helps tremendously ..May God Bless YOU and give YOU Peace as you Gracefully HEAL .. jim

What kind of round baler are you using.

Some balers have a flow control valve that causes the baler gate to lower at a slower rate than when it is raising.

Am I understanding that this tractor is new to you? If you havent changed oil you may want to change oil and clean the sight glasses

Sounds like you have a detent problem in the remote valve spool, and that could very well cause your problem. The fix in the remote service valve is quite easy, however getting the valve out from under the fuel tank is another story. When you get ready to repair the valve, don't hesitate to ask for further advise. In the meantime you can get by with tieing the outside lever in the neutral position. Just an after thought; is the linkage between the console lever connected to the actuator arm on the bottom of the remote valve? I have seen many instances where the little ball joint falls apart.

If the lever vibrates to the engaged position I would suspect a broken spring out in the end cap fitting where the hose meets the valve. In those valves the check ball is lifted off its seat by a pin that is pushed by the end of the spool. You should be able to feel spring tension when the lever is moved either way.
