Case VAC PTO shifting fork

Hi,

I have a Case VAC model from 1952 that needs a new shifting fork for the PTO. I have tried every possible outfit out there without any luck. Can anyone help me please? I would VERY much appreciate it!

The model number is VAC 5454742. I don't know if the number is a serial or model number.

VAC is the tractor model, the 7 digits are the tractor serial nr. Your serial nr 5454742 is for a 1950 model VAC tractor.

The PTO shifter fork was changed during the 1950 model year in VAC, VA & VAO.

Note in the parts view there are two p/n's for the shifter fork.

Fork p/n VT-203-A (later changed to p/n A28812)is for tractors before s/n nr 5450500.

Fork p/n VT-598 (later changed to p/n A28933)is for tractors after s/n nr 5450499.

If your model/serial nr is correct you are looking for the later shifter fork. Search with the original p/n and the cross-ref p/n and/or a shifter fork for a VA, VAC or VAO after s/n 5450499.

Thank you Joe!!

the part number embossed on the fork says indeed VT-598. Do you have any idea where I could find one? I think I have exhausted the internet already :)

Thanks again,
Emmanuel

Don Livingston in Minn should be able to help you. 507-433-0073, call mornings best.

I wasn't successful in goggling by part numbers either although vendors like Don L & Elmers Repair http://www.elmersrepair.com/ have lots of parts that are not listed. If you buy from Don L or Elmers you are pretty much assured of getting a good used part.

There is a complete VAC pto on fleaBay. VT189 is simply the casting nr on the housing, doesn't indicate the model year. You could ask the seller for the casting nr on the fork and if VT598 buy the PTO if cheap enough and tell the seller to ship the fork and keep the rest. Check with the seller re fork wear, pretty much of a crap shot sometimes.

Hi Joe,

I was finally able to get the shifting fork and put my PTO back together, but I'm not sure how to fill it back up with oil. Any hints? Also, the place where I bought the oil said it will probably take about 5 gallons. Is that correct? I know it's important to not over or under fill it.

Thanks,
Emmanuel
