So last night while baling i got some chatter in my hydraulic system coming from the shifter valve/remote lever area and then i lost all forward movement, pto , steering and brakes. I have had a trans filter warning light come on sometimes while idling, and my hydraulic seat has been acting up as well This happened to me 200hrs ago but the chatter was much different and no filter warning light ever came on. It turned out to be the charge pump drive bevel gear was shelled out. Is it a common problem when working the PTO on a large baler to have the gear shell out? Could a faulty pump be to blame? could vibration from the baler on the pto system cause any problems? Any thoughts would be appreciated, thanks
 
When you get those bevel gears out and see how small they are, and how much power goes through them you will wonder how they lasted this long. When I replaced mine in my 2090 I had to mess with the alignment and back lash to get a proper fit. Made me wonder if they were set up right in the first place. They had run 9000 hours. If the same as the 90 series they are not as bad of job to replace them as the service manual says. Not a real common part to go, but you do hear of them once in a while if that makes sense.
 
Thanks. I got the tractor dropped off today dealer thinks the vibration from turning with pto on baler engaged is taking the gear out. I am going to try to adjust the pto height on the baler to get the angles to even out on the drive line. Perhaps i am just asking too much of a 2294? It seems on the parts book the 2394's have a different (heavier) pump drive. Does anyone have any experience with a 2294 pulling a 4900 or 4910 baler?
 
I would say a 2294 would be a little light all the way around to run one of those big older hesston balers all the time. I think recommended hp is around 180 which would put it in the 2594 or turned up 2394 area.
