My neighbor and I got our 70 Series tractors out and did a little plowing to make sure we don't forget how..lol! Another neighbor is planning on a plow day, so we thought we would plow a little stubble to get them shined up. Stubble was light were we plowed, and the moisture was just about right. Mine is the 970 in the rear and Bill's is the 870 in the lead. This is in Central KS.

Looks like a good day to me. How close are those tractors as far as pulling those plows? We had an 870 first then a 970 and dad always said there wasn't much difference.

That is funny that you ask because Bill and I noticed his 870 seemed to be pulling his 4x16 slightly easier than my 970 pulled my 4x16. Both Oliver plows. However my plow on the 970 was not scoured yet and Bill's was.

I would say the 870 had a little more umph, but it was overhauled not long ago. My 970 only has 4980 hours so it should be plenty strong.

But to answer your question, not too much difference.

Funny thing is, is that back in the day I plowed with an old D John Deere when I was pretty young, then an open station 4020 JD and 930 Case, and thought it was the same as child abuse. Now for short periods of time, it is great fun. Bob

The 970 looks all business with the wheel weights. I especially like the deep fenders on the 870 though.

How did the wheat run this year in your area?

I'm here in Central KS. Most of the wheat was in the 35 to 40 bu range, with some in the 12 - 20 bu range. Between the extremely dry winter and spring, and a late frost, yields were down. There was some later wheat that did fair, and double crop was not bad.

I heard of 50 - 60 bushel wheat north of me. They probably caught a rain or two at the right time. Bob

That is a thing of beauty!!!! Plowing was always my favorite job. Loved the smell of the dirt after it was turned over. Have to search pretty hard to find a plowed field around here now. Two VERY nice tractors

Where at in central Kansas are you? I am just west of Great Bend a few miles. Our Wheat did about the same, maybe a little less. But it was still better than we expected. Great looking tractors.
