Late Model 430 - 4 speed only?

Was looking at a decent 430 tonight at the local auction yard. It had the square back seat, 3 pt hitch, and locking diff, so it is a fairly late one. But it sure looked like it was only a 4 speed, even though the decal on the dash showed shift info for 8 speeds. I did not see a dual range lever anywhere, at least not up under the steering wheel. Did CASE make these with only a single range transmission?

Yes they did. Spent a lot of time on Dad ole worn out 430 diesel back in the day. His was a 4 speed but did not have diffy lock. 4th gear was blazin fast on the thing. By far the fastest road tractor we had.

Would have been nice had that tractor been dual range or triple range and had diffy lock. a fuel miser it was though.

sadly case made a few cheapies like that ,,.there is 470 gasser on cl lexingtom ky . if it were a diesel I would grab it/// .no hand clutch ,, but it probably has live power rear clutch pack... that would make it tolerable ,, personally I love triple rnge and use all the gears often , to get just the rite speed .. who needs a 4 wheeler when you can go 28 mph ? ,,.

I have no problems with case offering the 4 speed only tranny, as they likely needed a price leader option line to battle price wise with the likes of the Ford 640, 641, and 2000 lines along with the massey 35 and 135 customs that were also stripped of options.

Heck the 4 speeds in the case were a heck of a lot more useable in comparison to those 4 speed Fords which had way too fast a first gear and way too fast a reverse gear as well.

Dual range or triple range is just so much better though.
