Hello All
I am needing to know how to operate a case o matic transmission on a 830, ive never used one, since all we ever had was the standard clutch type, so how do you go about getting these beast to motivate? could someone give me a step process for use if possible?
serves me right for putting the cart before the horse :(

I can scan the pages from my 830CK owner's manual if you'd like. It's mulitple pages,so if you respond to me by email I'll send them right to you to avoid cluttering up the site

You really should have a book, but the basic operation is like an automatic in your pickup. Push the "clutch" in, same as stepping on the brake in your pickup, select a gear, let the "clutch" up, accelerate, and you should be good to go. NEVER EVER use high RPMs when you let the "clutch" up, it will try to buck you off.

practically farm boy common sense .most important don't force the lok up lever , if the rod shows evidence of being bent or abused ,GET BACK TO US ASAP BEFORE TINkERING WITH IT , you may have to adjust it ,,.. there will be extreme problems with tranny not moving at all , but it is a minor fix ...sadly I have seen 800s sell for a song because someone mangled the clutch rod , that's how we got our 1st 800 . the tractor would only jerk to move ,. everyone at auction thought tranny was out and no one bid , Dad saw serveral fellas looking the 800 over and one of their boots bent the rod . whether it was accidental or intentional I don't know , I just remember Pop called them out on it , to the point where things got feisty between Pop and those guys . and Dad told the auctioneers helper what he saw happened , and those guys left the auction .. when it came time to sell the tractor started good ,, but grinded gears , and jerkt , ,, . dad threw in one single bid and got the 800 diesel dirt cheap ... gear grinding is normal ..., when we got pops 800 I was twelve yrs old ..1st job we put it on after adjusting it and fixing it was raking hay ,, dad put my older brother on it ,, then we all traded off each round to get the feel of how to get along with it ,,. loved making turn arounds in 6th gear and flipping the lok up and hearing all the sounds of tranny and motor..

The easiest way to learn how to operate is the same as you operate an auto with an automatic transmission. The engine needs to be idling, push clutch peddle all the way down and put transmission in desired gear(may grind some to get into gear), release clutch peddle, increase throttle to desired RPM and after ground speed is stable ( not with excessive slipping of the torque converter ) move lever into direct. In 8th gear (road gear) I like to use the foot throttle to get the tractor moving, release up on foot throttle and then move lever into direct drive and set RPM with either throttle. Doing it this way greatly reduces any jerky shifting to direct. To back up to hitch an implement use the brakes to control movement speed and distance. The hardest thing for me to learn was if doing PTO work in the field was to slow up the engine to about a 1000 RPM before engaging the clutch. Also remember in Case-O-Matic drive (not direct) they will free wheel if going down hill. I grew up on a 830 and today own a 730, great setup if you learn how to operate it properly and will hate it if not operated properly, The pulling torque is unbelievable and as a kid it was a lot of fun out pulling 4020's at the fair.

Thank you All for the Great info, i'll take a bit of getting used to im sure, but right now all i need to know is how to get it on a trailer :D
