2290 Oil Pan Removal Question

Hey guys, so this is probably not the most educated question, but here it goes:

To remove the oil pan on a 2290 tractor, do I need to drain the rear end/transmission? I have what appears to be hydraulic oil dripping from the bell housing and stater area. Previous owner told me it has a wet clutch (I know my 930 does.. but that's the only Case I have ever dealt with, so is this in fact true?) Tractor didn't come with a manual, and I'm not planning to keep it, so I'm trying to be cheap.

I took the tractor on trade for a 4010 Deere I was going to part out, but the 2290 has a BAD BAD knock, gonna drop the pan and see how "terminal" it is, and if it's worth fixing (and possibly keeping), or sell as is, or part out.. I know it has powershift issues (says the P.O.), and it's not the nicest tractor in the world to begin with (but I'm positive it's far from the worst too!)

Thanks in advance guys,

Brad

yes you will have to drain at least part of the hydraulic oil to drop the pan, if you drain the front sump, (first plug behind the oil pan I
think you will be ok as far as just dropping the oil pan goes, If it has a spun rod bearing then for the most part the engine is shot when
the small journal 504s spin a rod bearing they bend the crank and it will require a full scale rebuild most of the time, where abouts are you
located? I may be intrested in one for parts if you decide to go that route.

Jeremy,

Thanks for your response! Might try to drop the pan later this week and see what has happened. Like I had said in my original post, I took it in to flip it, so I really don't want to get too deep into it (however, my dad is trying to talk me into fixing it.. he says baling with A/C would be nicer than the open station lol)

I'm near Toledo, Ohio or Ann Arbor Michigan.

If you're interested, give me a shout 734-915-4380.
