Hello,
I am working on my 1957 big 400 propane. We got the tractor to run, but the mag is giving us problems on startup. I had the mag rebuilt, but it is not the original one for the tractor. I think it even says Minneapolis Moline on it.
What I am wondering is if the mag from a dc-4 would fit on this tractor? Or one from an LA or even a w-6 international would fit. I have access to all of these, but I can't take any off and check right now. What do you guys think?

Thank you,
Martin

My 400 series gas manual indicates that the magneto systems were a Case model 41. Don't know what other tractors that model may have been used on, but that info may help?? gobble

In addition, I checked in my SC parts book and it to shows a Model 41 magneto. MY guess and only a guess is that Model 41 was used on most 4 cyl tractors. gobble

The model 41 magneto was an improved replacement for the JMA magneto which was used on most DC and SC tractors. These magnetos were also optional on late VAC tractors. If the model 41 is correct for the LP 400, then any good JMA would also work (both have the same impulse lug angle, timing advance, and rotation).
