580ck power shuttle transmission issues

I have a 580ck backhoe. It starts and runs well and the loader and backhoe work fine. However, I am not able to drive it. I can start it with the
power shuttle in neutral, but I am unable to shift the power shuttle into forward or reverse. The gears just grind. I have tried with the clutch in
and with it out and I get the same results. I checked the power shuttle fluids and they were low so I filled it. The tranny fluids are over filled. Any
ideas?

If you get grinding like gear clash when shifting you do not have a power shuttle, you have a dry clutch synchronized shuttle, continued grinding will damage the gears and sliding collar. If you can easily clash it the brass synchro blocker rings may already be toast.

If I am correct, you have a clutch problem that will not release , nothing relating to the shuttle.

Pictures of the clutch pedal and the area under the fuel tank will help us out.

A dry clutch uses no oil pressure for operation but keeping the oil clean and level full is always a plus.

My NON POWER 1969 580CK gasser is exactly as mEl describes. forward reverse shifter on left side of steering wheel and dry clutch. Gear shifter for selecting 4 travel gears down between legs. If I get in a hurry and try to move from forward to reverse with the column shuttle without full clutch pressure it whines/grinds no matter what travel gear I am in. My dry clutch shuttle is only for forward and reverse and I must use the clutch AND it has to be in gear of course under the steering wheel. Mine also has a hi low gear shifter to the right of the regular gear shifter essentially making it an 8 speed trans.

Wonder if you can actually start the tractor with the clutch pushed in and your shuttle in forward or reverse and then let the clutch out?

iPod were right. It was a stuck clutch. I lifted the wheels off the ground in neutral. Turned it off. Put it in gear. Started it. Lowerred the wheels to the ground keeping bucket on the ground and the clutch popped free. Problem solved. It hank you.

Always good when it is an inexpensive fix! Thanks for letting us know how it turned out. Helps future search folks with a similar problem.

I'm going to investigate this with mine because I'm having similar issues. Also I have visibly checked my clutch as I depress it. I can definitely see a the throw out bearing moving. Unfortunately the people before me busted the bellhousing/torque tube on the right side. I can dang near see everything through a fist sized hole. I'm kind of assuming the grenaded the clutch and broke it. Tractor shifted good enough to load and get home. Moved about 2 dumptruck loads of gravel and poof. It's been a pull around machine since.

Wheni engage the clutch it doesn't seem to do much. You can hear a slight rpm change in the engine but the direction lever still grinds when trying to engage. Assuming I will find a mess when opened.

Any idea where to start beyond what I have offered?
