Preparing the weed killer

I plan to cultivate all my corn again this year. So it is time to give the ole cultivator a going over. Normally the common Danish tine sweeps and gauge wheels I just pick-up at my local CaseIH dealer. Not this year, they carry nothing on hand anymore that I need. Was going to order them but we priced the stuff first. From CaseIH it was $824, from a common supplier we all use with same quality parts it is $319 and that was with frt. and bolts. I believe in supporting the local dealers, but there is no reason I know of why the difference should be that much. Rod.

That could happen Steve, I sure hope this is one time the weather guys are wrong. The two previous Junes brought us bad flash floods, hope not to see it three years in a row. Rod.

Same problem here. My boss was going to replace the knives on his Brillion stalk shredder a few years ago, but from the dealer they were $26 a piece! That's $1800 on a machine they bought for $600. I brought him my Shoup catalog and we found them for $4.99. He's now a loyal Shoup customer. Again this spring we needed chisel plow parts which the dealer could have in in 3 days, Shoup had them there the next day, and far cheaper. He said the exact same thing about wanting to support local dealers, but it's getting hard for them to compete with aftermarket.

I recently had to put a clutch in my 1940 IH H and like you I try to support the local dealerships as much as possible. But, they wanted almost $600 dollars for a clutch kit for that tractor. I called on a catalog company in Indianola and got the exact same kit for $250.00. There is no need in CaseIh to jack the prices like they do. And, its not just them Deere does it also. So, I will get off my soap box now.........Kenny

Way to go Rod! Our corn all gets cultivated, no herbicides at all. "Weeds have not become resistant to steel".

Cultivating with that set up would be a pleasure cruse compared to what was used in the old days. At one time cultivating corn was a good job for grandpa to do. It kept him busy, and kept him out of everyone's way while trying to get some hay baled. I wish there was someone in our neighborhood that needed someone to do the cultivating. I'd work pretty cheap just for something to do every day.

Agree on the after market parts. I will buy local when it makes sense but if they have to order it, I will do the same...

How do you keep the concrete so clean?

The concrete has a sealer on it, The oil will soak in if I do not get floor dry on it soon. Rod.

I enjoy cultivating with the 870, have used the 970 with cab but it seems to confining, Rod.
