ji case 1070 powershift ?

Hello i have a white 1070 with power shift i bought it with a bad engine spun rod bearing i am getting ready to tear the motor down for rebulid. While motor is off the tractor is there anything i should check over or go through? The previous owner said everything seemed ok before the motor went. Has been ssitting since 2008. Thanks

I bought one of those 2 years ago. Story was a bad injector pump, but there was a new rebuilt pump to go with it. Supposed to have been sitting 5 years.

When I get it home.... receipt was in pump box from 15 years ago... Major overhaul, injectors, 2 heads... runs beautiful. Buuuuutttt.... trashed C3 clutch in powershift. Sitting in shop now, been there for a 3 months. Have all the parts, have it apart, just can't convince myself to put it back together, afraid what else will be wrong I guess.

Maybe one of these days when I am waiting for the rain to stop to do first cutting... Maybe after corn comes off in the fall, maybe when I am snowed in....

Thats what i am afaid of getting the motor done rite and then having trans trouble. I have never been inside a powershift trans. Is there speality tools needed and i am ordering a shop I.T manual also any info is great thanks

Forget the IT manual, unless you have a wood burner that you can use to dispose of it. Get an original Case service manual. It will take you step by step through the power shift. I was leery of them myself till the seals went out in my 870. Replaced all the pistons, seals, and a few clutch plates for less than $500. Not a big deal if you have the right manuals. No special tools needed other than having to split the tractor.

I second that IT manuals are worthless compared to the real thing, a case manual on ebay for a 1070 will probably run you 200 or less, money WELL spent.

When I posted this cross section a few weeks ago, one of the replies inferred there is more than one version of the Case power shift. Hopefully, someone will confirm if this version is for your tractor.

A picture is worth a thousand words. I hope the picture is good enough to see most of the general details.

This transmission has three subassemblies and each can be repaired SEPARATELY on the bench. The first subassembly is on the left with the two stationary clutches. The second subassembly is the planetary in the middle. The third subassembly includes the two rotating clutches and other components to the right in the picture.

The first subassembly slips apart from the planetary without removing any retainers. Removing snap ring labeled 13 allows the planetary subassembly to separate from the third subassembly. Note the smaller of the two ball bearings is retained to the planet carrier. The separation occurs at the inner race of this small ball bearing.

The most challenging aspect of the overhaul may be in the reassembly of the three subassemblies because teeth on the clutch discs have to be aligned with the mating teeth.
