Case 1070 right side break lock up and catch on fire.

All is ok and the tractor is still intact but I had to use the fire extinguisher on the break box.

I could smell it and I was afraid it was the bailer. I spent about 3 minuets checking the bailer and when I returned to the cab the console looked like a smoking toaster full of burning toast.

The rubber cap on top of the break assembly was smoldering. Since I was sitting over a windrow and the smoke was getting thicker I decided to hose it down with the water type extinguisher on the bailer. There was a lot of steam. That break box was very hot.

When I hit the break petal there is a cloud of hydrolic fluid that travels all the way to the front tire. I am not sure where is is coming from yet. Also, the break is still locked up but I was able to limp it back to the shop.

Any way I put the wife's pet tractor on the bailer again which is very humbling since I am not out of the dog house for my last dumb stunt.

What is the best way to get into this break box and figure out how to fix it?

Pull the bolts and it should come right off. If the tractor has been sitting around the first thing to check is the arm that the hydraulic cylinder pushes on to actuate the brake. They have been known to seize up and not release. If you have oil leaking you might have burned an oil line off. One good squirt of that oil into the fire and you would have lost the whole thing.

Everything went exactly as you said. I am going to do the other side as well tomorrow.

I got the brake box opened up and cleaned everything out. There was a lot of black crusty stuff in there. I am suspecting that a bunch of that trash got stacked up behind the pressure plate assembly and caused the whole problem.

There was enough heat that it finished off the slave cylinder. The brake line hose was looking rather old and bad off. I should have the new slave cylinder tomorrow and I am thinking that the shop can make a new brake hose.

In the process of cleaning the arms and stuff I ran the automatic brake adjuster WAY down. How is the best way to back that gizmo off so I don't start another fire?
