sc valve cover gasket

I need to put a new valve cover gasket on my 52 case sc.(question),Should i use some kind of stickum to hold the gasket in place or put the gasket on without it. Also, should i put the gasket on the cover first or on the head? Any help appreciated,Don.

The head is flat, the valve cover is tin and not so much. I lean toward gluing with a permatex, the gasket to the valve cover. If it's going to leak it will be between the tin cover and the gasket. The cover can then be removed for valve adjustments in the future with no issues. Do NOT glue to both surfaces, you will regret that one..............

I have always used gun grease to hold the gasket into the valve cover, and nothing on the head. Been doing it that way for over 45 years.
Not saying that is the correct way, but you can pull the valve cover and reuse the gasket for many years that way.

I permatex mine to cover nothing on head. Does not leak and easy to remove valve cover and reuse same gasket. Dick

If the valve cover is wrapped it will leak with out something to glue the gasket to the cover.

Place the gasket on top of the head. Then lay the valve cover on. Check to see if you can see light shinning through between the gasket and valve cover from the other side. if you can't it's good to go. If you can see light. Then you need a sealer on the valve cover.
