case-o-matic

is there a way to tell if a case-o-matic transmission is ok or will slip when the tractor is sitting in the yard rather than testing it in the field?

Bill, Start it up and put it into 8th gear, let out the inching spool, throttle it up so it starts to move and then pull the lever that shifts it into direct. That should stall the engine.

Loren-Loren!! I just had to pick myself up odd the floor!! Doing that might shear the cogs off that fiber disc, especially considering this converter might be all original. I would simply take off in 5th, get rolling, pull the ol'e girl into Direct, then step on the brakes. She should lug right down. Also, she should go into gear without grinding, if the gears grind, it probably means the discs are warped or scored.

Lol John ,, You mite be rite ,,. especially if the 800 has been out of service awhile , I recall hearing this story guys ,. ,. is it true back in the day ,, that muther deer captured a 800 and chained her down tite and stuck her in gear and wide opened the throttle to see how long the tranny would take their punishment? //// another thing I mite add to you and lorens comment is watch the gauges ,, tranny temp guage should not pik up heat fast when in c-o-m drive but will build over time in hard lug til you get over the hill and snap into direct ,, inch peddle will dump pressure on tranny pressure guage .. my pressure on my 800 bill runs a little on the low side,,. but it does just fine , and will pull a 3 bottom plow fine in 3rd and 4th gear on these red clay hills , ,.. btw john ,, my bto . brother guy, says he spoke to you about his 1175...

I'm just about to take case-o-matic torque converter and multi-disc clutch apart.

I hope I see some obvious wear and tear cause it would hardly pull in case-o-matic drive
