gonna try my luck here with my pals at case,, just put a rebuilt roosa masater pump on my 4020 diesel , it has pencil injectors . My nephew Justin crossthreaded the brass fitting fuel return elbow ,and then I broke it! ,. sheesh ,,. ! ,, was gonna replace the elbow with a standard elbow from hardware , but it would not have the stopper baffle, that muther deer has on theirs ,, does anyone know what does that baffle do ?, to justify 40 bux as opposed to a 2 dollar brass fitting ? thanx guys

You paid good money to have the IP rebuilt.

SOP would have been that it was run on the test stand with the housing pressure relief valve installed.

The speed advance was calibrated at that time.

Removing the special elbow will affect advance function, at least to some degree.

Is that how you want to run your newly rebuilt/calibrated $$$$ pump?

Check with a diesel pump shop or two.

That elbow is not a "DEERE only" part.

If they have one on the shelf, you MAY be abkle to buy it for less than the price at the Green Store.

Stanadyne has two sizes of restricted return elbows, large one is part # 16800, same size as fuel inlet and 1/8 M pipe. Smaller is part # 13264 with 1/8 M pipe. The fitting is designed to maintain about 2 to 3 PSI housing pressure to help stabilize the advance and governor action. 4010 never used the fitting on either early no advance or late updated advance pumps. Should it be in place? Yes. Will it work fine without it? Yes, advance will be starting to come into play earlier though.

According to my genuine JD fuel systems parts book , 4020

does not have a housing pressure regulator. many of the

older systems didn't have one. I do inj pump overhauls and

4020 pumps don't come in with a regulator, did one 3 weeks

ago.

The most early pumps did not come with them unless added later. All the very late pumps did, along with other internal parts changes too. Just repaired a late 3020 JDB pump, still uses the larger 16800 return fitting. Also still see a few with the smaller 13264 fitting in place..
