Question on throttle and seat on 530

The first pic is the "farmerized" throttle on my new 530 LP from a few post back. It isn't pretty but it does work. I would like to find the linkage parts and put it back like original. My question is: Is this the original seat? I got the original owner's manual and it does not mention this seat. I know the rubber torsion springs are dry rotted so I'm going to have to get new ones. But I needed to know if that's the original seat so I can get a new back and cushion.

There's a thin sheet of metal where the cushion should be. It's just sitting in there. Must have been part of a makeshift cushion. And I couldn't find a J.I. Case brand 2x4 to prop it up.

Yes that's the original seat. It it's an option for the 530, rather than just a pan seat. Actually there were 3 seats available it seems. A pan seat, then the pan seat with back rest, "comfort ride" then that "deluxe" seat you have there. Check the 530 parts book on cnh web site. You will see it along with all the lpg options. I'm restoring a 530 right now and have already looked at all this. You can get those cushions online. My dad knows a place where you can send the whole seat in and have them do it up nice like original. Let me know if you want me to find out. Good luck!

Following are a couple of parts diagrams from the early/original 530 parts manual to help you with your search for the throttle linkage. The throttle linkage on the early 30 Series underwent a significant change in late 1960 (early to mid 1961 models. The throttle and COM handles didn't change but many other parts did. The 630 throttle/COM handle should be the same, and the there is no difference in the handles between the spark ignition and the diesel models. In other words, the replacement handles should be relatively easy to find.

There was also a change from a single governor spring to a dual spring even earlier (midway through the 1960 model year). That change was available as a retrofit, so don't let that confuse you if you have a very early serial number.

There are several reputable places you can look for salvage parts. Some of the proprietors frequent this site.... If you need any additional help find a part source. Let us know. - Joe

...by the way, as others have already stipulated, the seat is very likely original. It was the "DE LUX UPHOLSTERED SEAT". Another "DE LUX SEAT" was also available. It was designed more like a round pan seat with a low backrest.

The thin piece of metal you see was the frame used in the cushion that was attached to your seat frame. Replacement seat cushions can be had from several vendors. I like the quality an service provided by K & M Manufacturing. They identify the cushions you need as "Case 520 Seat"(SKU: P520S-7074) and a "Case 520 Back" (SKU: P520B-7073). Brace yourself before checking the price......
