Found a shed stored tractor parked since 1996. Lp Tank is empty. Hooked up a 5 gal tank to the filter i can get the tractor to start but will not stay running. Can hear gas coming into carb thru air breather. An old Mechanic friend told me the vaporizer may be flooding it. I just don't understand why it would start but no keep running?

If you hear gas coming through, your diaphragms in your vaporizer are bad and it needs to be rebuilt or replaced. It started on the rich mixture surprisingly but wont run on it because those diaphragms that are leaking are also acted on by engine vacuum to control the mixture of LP and air in the engine. Too little or too much LP and she wont fire. You will have to see what brand of vaporizer it has on it and if parts are available or if your going to have to replace it entirely.
