last winter , I had a good mechanic instal a new clutch pak in my 1070 , got it back , and come to think of it never used the pto...although on occasion I noticed it turning so I left it engaged while running doing tillage thinking it would save the brake , ,NOW. hookt pto up to fertilizer buggy ,.. AND NO GO ,,.. lokt tite , with motor off or on , engaged or disengaged , 1000 rpm or 540 ,. damtite !/?,,. I always kinda thought the pto should turn with great effort because of brake drag ,, but that is a clink tite feel I get when I put a small pipe wrench on the shaft / both ways ,, is that normal ??. cheked actuater valve and tried multiple settings ,,. NO Difference , And No Surge Difference or bounce on the tranny pressure needle,, at idle or full throttle ,. Then I took the line off that pumps oil into the pto and at idle let it pump oil into a gallon jug , after about 30 seconds I had over a half gallon ,,. I don't know for sure am thinkin that is not too impressive of flow ,,.. .. phoned my mechanic during serveral of these steps and trials .,. he tells me that he shimmed up the valve this winter to get adequate pressure and is thinkin that perhaps the pto actuator valve should be rebuilt .. probably a seal kit needed becauase of bypassing

The clutch does not take any flow. Check the pressure on the line going into the PTO. At an idle time the time it takes for the 3 pt. to lift with the PTO in both positions. This will tell you if there is an internal leak. The hydraulic pressure releases the brake as it engages the PTO clutch. Brake itself is spring applied when there is no hyd. pressure.

hum n , gonna try the 3 pt and steering too .. , would the brake allow pto to move w hen a small pip wrench is applied ??? if hydro pressure activates clutches ,, then my keepin pto engaged over concern about wearing the brake was moot ,, ,, as long as oil is flowin thru it shoulda kept the brake spring from slammin shut.. rite ??

Jim , can you blow air through the inlet fitting or does it get pressure.

Many overlook it on a PTO job but the brake piston has a roll pin holding it in place on the end of the brake assembly allowing it to slide out the shaft and dump the oil back to sump. It can be checked easily by removing the hydraulic pump and looking at it. If indeed it is out of place, simply tap it back in and replace the roll pin, preferably with a spiral pin, it would be stronger.

It's not a major job but getting the roll pin started due to clearance where it is can be a bit challenging, I would stuff rags down in there to minimize the chance of losing the pin if it gets away from you.

Check with a good volume blow gun first to see if you can build pressure.
