Water pump on David Brown 885

Just a handful of 5/16" bolts of various lengths(1/2 heads). There is a rubber donut that goes between the pump and head that needs replaced when you do the pump.

When installing, you can hinge the pump up on one bolt to squeeze the donut using a prybar.

Obvious normal caveats of disconnect negative battery cable, before loosening the alternator to take the belt off.

Be careful not to knock the fan into the radiator too, the rads are getting brittle at this old age.

There is a square block looking thing on top
Looks like it has the thermostat on it
Is that the rubber donut u r talking about?
I'm guessing those bolts loosen also
This is a 1st time experience 4 me

The thermostat is in the head. The head stays on. The donut is between the head an the pump.

Unbolt the pump, and drop it down. The donut will be sitting on top in a depression.

DA, you have to press the pulley off. Be sure to see how far the pulley is below the end of the pump shaft. If no press take it to a shop to have it pressed off. Those pumps can break when doing this. I'm lucky as I have a friend that rebuilds clutches, water pumps and does all kinds of brake relining. Also sends his stuff all over the country. Lots of obsolete and hard to find stuff.
