When you have to remove a tire from a rear rim do most of you use a tire man or do it yourself? I have to remove a tire to repair the valve stem hole on my DC an have never removed one myself. Just wondering what most of you do?

I put a set of tires on my DC4 by myself. Lot of work. I did not have a slide hammer to break the bead, but it would have really helped.

I do my own , but I was a tire man all thru the '70-80's. Get yourself some Myers tire mounting compound , it's a vegetable oil soap that really makes the tire bead slide on & off easy. Your local tire store might sell you a coffee can full if it's not at NAPA. Break the beads off the rim with down pressure from a skip loader bucket....

Just got a tool from Northern Tool that breaks tire bead with just a wrench. Mounts on the rim with built in clamp and then pushes bead of tire off of rim. You can even leave the tire on the tractor. I do everything by myself and this tool worked very well for me. Quick and painless. Allan.

I change all my own tires. I have a slide hammer bead breaker, and a few other shop built tools that seem to work if the slide hammer will not take them. Tire truck here is over $100 for one tire. It takes 1/2 hour to fix one. I can work for $200 an hour. I do truck tires, tractor tires, and pay loader tires. I have not taken a tire to town in years, and I have at least 300 around here to keep up.

I've been both routes, generally I have a tire man come out but usually its on our actual farm tractors so those tires are much bigger than the ones on your DC, one thing I would ask though is how long has it been since its been apart last and are there any signs of rust from fluid in the tires? If its been on there for 60 yrs and looks like there has been some rusting from inside the rim you might be ahead to have a tire man come take it off for you if they get rusted on they can be a real pain to take apart.

Did the rim rot out from calcium chloride leaking out of the stem? You might have a real mess on your hands. Probably be better to find a different rim before you pull that tire off.
