1936 case cc

With 5505 head, 4" pistons, cold manifold, and 1400 rpm, you should get in the low 50s for HP. Up from 35. You will need a four row radiator core and fan shields top and bottom if you expect it to not overheat.

I don't have the money for the 4in pistons and sleeves. And what's a cold intake? And where do I get fan shields?

Tractors of the mid 30s were often dual fuel with two compartments in the fuel tank. Gasoline was needed to start the engine but power fuel (similar to kerosene) was cheaper. The power fuel required what was know as a hot manifold that vaporized the power fuel so it would ignite in the cylinder.

The hot manifold had a fat rectangle shape directly above the carb. Buried in the center of the rectangle shape was a round tube that was the passage for the fuel/air mixture to travel to the intake valves. The rectangle shape was otherwise hollow and hot exhaust gases would circulate in the hollow area. This made the round tube hot enough to vaporize the heavy fuel.

The term "cold manifold" was adopted which meant it did not have a fuel/air heating chamber. The cold manifold has a round tube showing directly above the carb.

The hot manifold had the negative effect of expanding the air about 30 percent so the cylinders could not draw in as much fuel mixture as when the manifold is a cold manifold. Therefore, the cold manifold allows the engine to produce more power.

I suppose the fan shields could better be called part of the fan shroud. We know, for cooling fans to work efficiently, there needs to be a fan shroud around the entire circumference of the fan. If there is an opening in the shroud, some air is drawn thru the opening that would otherwise be drawn thru the radiator core.

If your radiator does not have the sheet metal fan shields, Don Livingston in Austin, MN ( 507 433 0073) probably has fan shields in his salvage yard.
