case 470 gas tach

I bought a new tach cable for my case 470, but only problem is that I cannot find where it hooks up on the engine side. Doesn't go on the distributor, or side of the block. I am thinking it goes on the generator, which is swapped with an alt. Can't find a spot on the front of the engine either. Can someone help?

John Saeli showed me a alternator he sells that has the tach drive assembly that you need, he is on this site daily so will probably pop in.

You're supposed to have an alternator. It was one of the changes from the 430/530 series to 470/570 series. The tin work was also changed with a bump out to accommodate it. On my 570 Gas it goes to the distributor. Maybe your distributor is not the original?

Only the very earliest 470/570s had a generator. Is your side "tin" formed like the one in the pic below or flat. If the former, it was born with an alternator. If that side sheet is flat with nothing pressed out to accommodate the alternator it was born with a generator with a tach drive. If it left the factory with an alternator the tach drive would be at the base of the distributor. See arrows for the tach cable... - Joe

You have a very early, probably made in 1969, 470 that was originally equipped with a generator that had a tach drive....
