hello all,I was quoted a price on a 1210 david brown the other day, tractor is all there, good rubber, starts on first or second roll of engine really nice,he's selling all of his stuff because of relocation to florida. He priced it at $2500.00,was wondering about parts availability, prices. It needs instrumentation work, some paint, thats about all as far as I have seen so far.Any comments?

DB is a good tractor, it's just that it's British which means it's a little different. They are very high quality, fuel efficient and usually last and last and last. But you need the manuals for them because the Brits do things a little different.

As far as parts, it's far, far easier to get DB parts today than even 5 years ago. The internet is great in that respect. I wouldn't be afraid of any DB made after the mid 60's. Some of the real old ones are a different critter altogether. The 1210 would be a great tractor on a small farm.

Watch the hydraulics and work them with a load on...on the tractor that is. They should go up and down fine. 90% of the DB problems I hear about are hyd related and usually it's just a tiny spec of junk in a valve that's easy to access once you know where it is.

they are fine tractors , real fuel efficient and powerful , and agile . ,, but sadly they are british , and they do things oddly , LOL ,, not wrong ,,, but just makes us yanks wonder when we look at a design ,, why in the world go thru allthat trouble to do sumthin simple?? LOL ,one of these days I will change out the crank in the 1210 I have here ,, broken crankshafts is only valid bad thing I ever hear ,, mine came here as a brokedown trade and p-owner claims it was never ethered ??? ,, ether seems to be the culprit ,

Ether breaks rings and pistons. Broken cranks are from lugging them.

Nothing wrong with a good 1210. As soon as I finish this cup of coffee, going out to drill with one of mine. One has 12800 hours on the clock, the head has never been off, did break a crank once though.

huummn ???,, luggin makes sense , rich ,, most times when I saw this 1210 workn it was at mid throttle or lower putterin around doing loader work , and yes , it strained the hydraulics under the load and begged for more throttle to help lift the heavy load,,

Not just any lugging... running an auger, loader work, dragging a grain drill around... all fine.

What you don't want to do is have it work hard under 1800 rpms, IE no black smoke at low speed. Tillage work at low engine speed is bad news.

thanks for the reply's guys, dad bought a 880 selecto back in the mid 70's,it never gave us any problems,he really liked the "stingy on fuel"of that machine.I'll look at it a lot closer in the next day or so.
