starting issue

Just purchased a Case 430 at auction. Runs great, just has a starting issue I need help with. Uses the 2 6V batteries, after testing today found 1 battery had reversed polarity. Never knew that could happen to be honest. Replaced bad battery, each battery showing 6.16V, but once connected in series, I have only 0.15 volts on tester. Attempt to jump to starter, nothing. Measure at starter, nothing. Where do I look next?
The tractor starts within 5 feet when pull starting, but be nice to actually use a key.

The two batts. need to be hooked in series, not parallel. The hook up should look like the pic.
Personally, I would put a group 31 12V in the tray.

That is exactly how it is hooked up. I am just not getting any voltage to the starter. With a redneck rigged front end loader on the tractor, removing the hood for full access is difficult, hence the reason I am trying to narrow the focus of my problem instead of spending hours clearing access and rewiring the entire tractor.

It has to be bad cables or bad connections between chassis ground and starter solonoid, if bats are at 6+V.
I know what you are up against, trying to remove the hood to gain access to bats.
When I built the cab for my 440 I had to cut a bigger opening in my hood like the 100B tractors had, to get better access to the bat. and dash components.

Ok, unfamiliar with running the two 6V batteries. Hooked up as shown in diagram, should I have 12V then coming out to the starter selenoid? I have 0.15V coming out the positive line, where does this send me to diagnose? The Tractor ground, or the jump connector joining the 2 batteries?

Clean and reconnect every cable connection, starting at ground and working to the solonoid. If that doesn't help, you have bad cables, or remaining isues with batteries. As I said before, I would just install a group 31 12V bat. and eliminate the 2 6Vs

Problem I have with doing that is there is the cable that comes up between the 6V batteries and plugs into the tach/speedometer on the dash. I see no way to reroute that cable as to fit the 12V into the tray.

Appreciate everyones help and advice. I seem to have solved the problem with the starting, now the only issue is it does not seem to be charging the batteries. Oh well, once started, I can turn the key off to save juice for the next start till U get time to really dig into it more.
