Helix Bunk Feeder

Moving stuff around. This bunk feeder hasn't seen daylight for awhile. Dang if the tires don't still hold air. I'm wondering why all the Case/Helix boxes I've seen don't have a Case running gear under them? Where they not heavy enough at the time?

That's a nice wagon !! I would like to have one even though I dont need it.
Thanks for posting, Nick

I haven't a picture of it but if the sun shines tomorrow I'll see what I can do.
About .40 of much needed rain in the gauge. I was hoping for more.

Only .20 here....have to come up in your country to get a load of Case stuff I bought last fall. I suppose start planting corn one of these days. Not in much of a hurry to bury that much money without moisture.

Wheat planted three weeks ago hasn't sprouted yet. It'll likely come up the same time as the wheat planted a few days ago if we get enough rain to wet it. Haven't seen a corn planter yet. Everyone's waiting for a good rain. The air was brown with dust last week on those windy days.

casecollectorsc and I are both in Eastern South Dakota but 100+ miles apart with me being further Northwest.
I plant mostly corn and beans, sometimes a little wheat but not much.
Steve usually gets more rain than I on any given year. His area also has some irrigation whereas mine does not.
Our soils here don't tolerate excess moisture very well so we're always either too wet or too dry more often than just right.
Can't tile anything because we're too flat. There's no place downhill for a tile to exit.
We have some soils that can be too wet and sticky in the morning, perfect planting conditions for a few hours while your gone to dinner or chasing parts, then too hard and dry in the afternoon. Or so it seems. LOL Right now we could use a slow 2 inch soaker.

If you don't mind me asking, what is the history of this wagon? Have you had it a long time? Where did you find it? Are all the parts there? Will it still work? It sure looks nice, must have been in a shed most of its life? That is a neat piece. Thanks

Ronald,
I picked it up at the a farm sale some
years ago in western South Dakota. It
needs chains and bearing changed out
before it will run but standard sizes
so shouldn't be a problem. The only
concern I have is the cross conveyor
belt is some sort of rubberized
canvas. Not sure where to find that
in the correct width and material but
I'm sure I could find something to fill the bill.

Thanks for answering my questions. I would think that wagon would be quite rare (yes, I know everyone has a different idea of what rare is). A very nice piece. Thanks for the pictures.

Case made good running gears, but short line manufacturers or used gears probably undercut them on price. Feeder wagons like that didn't travel very far, less distance than even a manure spreader. Many livestock feeders tended to be price sensitive on equipment.

That makes sense. Thanks for the response.
I suppose a few guys may have used their existing gears also.
Someday if I get this thing working, I want to put a Case gear under it.
