voltage regulator

Does anyone know where I can get a voltage regulator for a 541? Mine quit charging and the last time it quit charging it was the regulator but I did something and it started charging

Nick, It may well turn out to be a bad regulator but I would make sure the brushes in the genny are not stuck. I have corrected many charging problems with a can of penetrating oil and a short pocket screw driver working through the rear slots by flipping the brush holders up and down to free them. sometimes they set up on their pivot pins. If the system has not worked for a while you may try polarizing it then.

Check and clean all the wiring ends including your battery and ground, look for cracked wires. Repolarize the gen. I'm learning gens are much more temperamental about corrosion than modern alternators. Of course 65 years of being out in the weather will do that.....
