Case 430 transmission question

Can someone help me with a question about a case 430 with "triple range"?. How does that work? How do you shift into the next four gears? Mine does not seem to work. Thanks for any information.

You have 12 gears. Some gear speeds may overlap other gears. If you have an operators manual it shows the 12 gears and what speed each one is. Basicly you have 4 speeds in low range, 4 in the middle range and 4 in the high range. If it is not marked, low is back toward the operator ( using the shift lever on the side of the tranny) wnen you shift that lever straight forward you should be in the middle range. If you pull lever back between the two and slide it out away from tranny case and then forward you should be in high range. You will know if you are in high range if you put it in 4th gear. It will go quite fast. Dick, OR.

I hope this is going to Mr. Benson. Thank you for the info. Is the lever your talking about on the left side or right side? Mine is on the left and it sits horizontally. The movement is from up or down only 2 to 3 inches.

The lever on the left is not a gear shift. It is a clutch release lever unless you have a shuttle shift. Are you sure you have a triple range? If you have a triple range, you will have the 4 speed shifter between your legs on top of the tranny and you will have a shift lever on the right side by your right knee which is the three range shift lever, Dick

Your right. There is no shifter on the right but on the dash next to the headlight switch lettering that says triple range and has a decal with low on the left and high on the right. The lever on the left is what my concern is. The tractor moves only when I pull this lever all the way up but it wont stay. I have a shop manual ( I&T)but it does not go into specific detail as how to operate the tractor's accessories.
Thanks for your help. If your still interested in answering questions tomorrow that would be great. I have to go to bed it's 10:00 here in texas. Thanks again Sir.

Evidently you don't have the triple range shift lever on the right it sounds like. That would mean you have only a 4 speed? Sounds like you may have a clutch issue. Hopefully one of the experts with the 430's on this site will chim in. Dick, OR.

if you have done very little experimenting and have limited knowledge and experience the lever that wont stay could possibly be A SHUTTLE ,, pulling rearwood should be reverse, push to go forward ,,... but imho ,,.. I think it is the live pto power fluid drive hand clutch ,,. this lever should engage with a over center snap of about 20 -60 ft lbs ,,. it is adjustable , ,,.

The handle on my tractor comes out of the tractor with a 90 degree angle and it sits horizontally I have to pull up or down to make it move. If I have it down or middle area the tractor will not move. if I pull up the tractor will move but I can't let go or it falls to neutral or low. How does this lever tie into the PTO handle on the back of the tractor? Thanks for your help.

puts gears in nuetral but lets pto run sounds like you have 4 speed tractor with triple
range sheet metal . might want to have talk with seller
