Case DC 4X4 Turbo Diesel

A couple of guys have asked me about this so I thought I'll just re-post it after 11 years. We built about 5 of these in Cambodia in 2004. They used a Mitsubishi truck engine and a Korean Army truck front end. We figure they had about 90hp and they worked pretty well in the Cambodian mud. There were some problems with U joints holding up and as far as I know most of them are now retired to the Cambodian Hedge rows. They were a full time 4X4 in all gears and drove off the cross shaft through a drop box. Getting the ratios right with the sprockets and gear boxes stretched our math ability,

I should add that the reason for the air system was mainly to run an air cylinder that operated the hand clutch with a foot pedal, we also got air horns and the ability to fix flats.

how many did you retrofit ted ?,,. all the modernizing looks well thought out,, but there is a dc in there somewhere .. lol,.. how did the motor bolt in /?

I have to say WOW like Bruce did. Here in the good ole USA we could never justify building a tractor like that because the cost of labor is so high. We do many projects like that for fun and just to say we did, but most of the time it does not make economic sense, but gives us bragging rights, LOL. Rod.

Let me add a third WOW! That is one of the coolest things I have ever seen. To think there are a few sitting in hedge rows makes me a little sick, and makes me want to find a way to bring one to the USA. That would be an amazing addition to a small farm! Very, very well done!

Ted,

If only Case engineering from the 40's had thought that far out of the box as you did. Simply incredible. Don

I think we finished about 5. We had about 10 more started but then after bringing in some 830-930's, and people wanted them even though they didn't have the 4X4, we finally gave it up, I mean these were a tremendous amount of work. We cut the adaptor plate out of 1&1/2 steel plate. Getting that thing centered and then adapting the DC flywheel to fit the engine were things that only a Cambodian genius like "Paul Mok" could figure out. They had power steering, air clutch & horns, live pto, Cat 2-three point, 4X4, hydraulic seat, etc. We even had to hand build the exhaust manifold for the turbo.

WOW is right. Would be great to have one of those here in the states. It would sure be a show stopper.

How many years were these used before they were parked in the fence rows? I wish I had unlimited finances. I would buy the fence row tractors and bring them back to the U.S.A. They would make a lot of heads turn.

Holy Cow Batman! That’s one unbelievable Case!

I’m like everyone else If the money was available I would be going to that fence row!

I would like to see more pictures if they are available.

They were used until recently, there was a problem finding the Korean Army truck front end parts. It had a non standard gear ratio. They got used hard and pretty beat up . The 90 degree gear box was from a supply of 110hp
rated Bush Hog brush cutters, and I think I only bought about 15 of them, They had some kind of wacky 1.4:1 gear ratio or something, and the sprockets from the cross shaft on the tranny were double 60 chain and had like 24
tooth to 19 tooth or something like that. Everything was built to time the speed to the outside tire diameter, Tires would blow and be replaced with something that was a different size, Anyway, my point is, that once they got the
ratios screwed up, it just tore things up.

We had a complete, one but some former employee stole the Korean Front end off it to sell to a guy who needed it and so........... It sits.

Geeeese, that design is incredible. the power steering alone is amasing and then to add the air assist to the clutch etc. is increditable. As said W-0-W.
