What Rotten Luck

This young fellow gets a chance to purchase a very low hr (2200), 2090 CASE from a widow that owned this tractor. It had been parked in a shed for 12 yr since her husband passed away. As a first time CASE owner he was proud of his purchase. He used it for less than a hour before the pto started slipping. Not wanting to damage anything he parked it until I had a chance to look at it. I suspected faulty linings and sure enough that is what I found. He also wanted the oil leak by the engine repaired so I split it. Concerned he might have a problem with linings on the torque limiter plate also I took that apart, sure enough those linings were falling off. Having sat all those years with a little moisture in the oil had taken its toll. I do not have the heart to inform him the brakes and diff lock linings will more than likely have the same fate. These original linings in the 90 series have been known to have this problem in our area. Rod.

Man, I don't envy you! Do you think the PowerShift could also be affected? I do think you should tell him of the potential problems. I doubt he will want to pay for another split soon. I'm sure glad I'm not you tho.

Rod,
Feel good that you wern't the dealer who sold that tractor. I had a hard time dealing with situations where the engineering was not up to my and my customers expectations. AKA 2090-2290 rear diferentials.

uugggg. That would be a rough start.Could it have been a cheap hydralic oil put in instead of hytran? Seems you're getting to know the 2090's pretty well!Does it have the pressure relief valve and oil lube tube? I bet if not it will before it leaves.Hopefully its good for a long time after this.

I was told that if John Deere hydraulic oil was used that the linings would come apart like that.....just a guess. That would mean power shift is in trouble next.

Steve I do not remember what kind of trouble you were having. The 70 series systems did not have all the lining problems the 90 series had, Rod.

That looks like my tractor after i changed oil to Marathon 577. It took 60 hours before I had total failure Lost every fiber disc in the tractor
