Case 1370 oil pump drive gear backlash.

I am confused about the backlash on the engine oil pump gear.
The manual says that if I remove the engine oil pump I can install it again with the old shims without trouble, If I do not renew any parts.
I put in some new main bearings, and I do not see that it can have any affect on the backlash.

But when I reinstalled the engine oil pump, I can turn the gear on the pump alittle, but not the idle gear.
I did not check if I could turn it before I removed it, so I do not know how this idle gear on the pump should act.

Should I have any reason to worry if I just replaced the main bearings?
(This is the late engine oil pump with two small gears.)

Henrik changing the bearing should not affect backlash. The gear on the pump that contacts the drive gear on the crankshaft should have a little backlash after the pump is torqued down. I did not check the manual to see what it gives for backlash specs, but it would be about the same as what the two gears on the pump have between them. Rod.

Ok, thanks. Then something is not as it should be. the lower gear on the pump I can turn a little little bit around, but the idle gear I can not turn at all.
The manual says gear backlash should measure 0.003-0.008.
I do not fully understand that. Is that how far I should be able to turn the gear around, or is it how far I should be able to push the gear on the axle back and forward?
What can be wrong?

Ok.
Is it not very strange if I have to put in a extra shim?
The problem is also that I do not have any extra shim and it will take some time to get one.
Now there are 3 shims. If I put in a extra shim it will be 4. And that is the same as 0,5 mm. Is it some sort of special material in this shim? Or can I use a ordinary metall plate that is 0,5 mm instead of all 4 shims?
