My experience on the 70 series has been with gear drive tractors. My question on a power shift tractor is how do you downshift when in road gear? I am thinking I remember hearing to not use the clutch when going from 3rd to 2nd, so when slowing down I idle the tractor down and then just downshift from 3rd to 2nd, but it sure jerks the tractor. Same from 2nd to 1st. Is this the correct method? The power shift seems strong. Thanks again - Bob
 
Yes you have it correct. Throttle down, manualy move lever to second, then first and then depress the pedal. There are consiterable changes in speed as you down shift so expect some jerking, especially when on blacktop.

Thanks Loren. I didn't really see any other way, but like you said on asphalt is is a pretty good jerk. Same with going up the gears. Thanks again - Bob
 
Bro, not yet, but he says it is brisk shifting and and I like that. He didn't mention any lag or drag on engine when shifting. Good thought and worthy of further discussion.

, Try using the foot throttle when shifting the powershift in road gear you can shift it very smoothly that way. When Case came out with the 90 series they did away with the foot throttle and made it miserable to shift smoothly on the road. FYI most Case row crop tractors had foot throttles as early as 1940 on the VC through the 70 series. JIM
 
Do not try to sequence the foot throttle action while using the powershift!! most of the time that just causes extra strain on the torque limiter disc with forces in both directions. As a dealer I have seen the results to the TL with throttle jockies driveing them. That is why the foot throttle was elininated.
As I said earlier, just throttle back when slowing down, and shift up at lower RPM and then throttle up after in high gear.
