1070 Question

I bought a late 1070 that had sat for about 5 or 6 years. Before I started it I loosened the oil drain plug on the transmission to check for water. The oil looked very good, no water. Checking the level and it showed OK in the sight glasses.
Got the tractor fired up and ran it up and down the road a few times to get things loosened up and see how the ole girl ran before I changed the engine oil. (Engine oil looked fine as well)

Seems the tractor is going to be a good runner, tach shows 4100 hours. The fellow that had it was not a farmer, but had a few acres he played with so I am sure the hours are correct. No wear in the front end and the drawbar hole is not wallowed out at all.

My question is, I see a few drops of transmission oil trying to drip now between the block and trans case, on the very bottom. Just a drop or two, but still a leak. I know it probably wasn't leaking before or the oil level wouldn't have been full. Any ideas on why it would be leaking now. Probably a seal, but just curious what you thought. Thanks - Bob

Since it sat for some time the rear main or trans input seal may have gotten hard. I would run it and see if it stops. Also Hytran plus has aditives that keep seals soft and flexable and will help solve your issue.

Snug up the 2 back center oil pan bolts. They have copper washers on them
And go up into the trans case and can cause oil drips. Just a thought.

+1, all our powershifts have done this at some point. You can anneal the washers with a propane torch so they seal better.
