looking at a 1190

Have an opportunity to purchase a case 1190. At an estate auction, supposed to be well kept, recent power steering replacement by factory. No pics or look yet just seeing what anyone would recommend I look for or stay away from.

I have a 1490 and a 1690.
On the 1690 the clutch for the PTO is very hard to pull upp. But on the 1490 it is not. I dont not know why, if something is wrong with it or if that is normal.
The clutch is a handlebar next to the parking brake, on the left side of the seat.

They are a heavy built tractor and will out work most tractors in their size class.
My dad bought an 1190 new in 1982 and we have put 5000 + hrs on it only replacing the fuel pump.
Our tractor has seen heavy use and worked harder than it should have been.
On ours you have to lay your knee against the gear shifter to keep it from popping out when backing up with a heavy load. It also pops out of 3rd range on occasion. The steering is the only other issue. It bleeds through slightly while driving. You only notice it on the road, where you have to keep turning the wheel slightly to keep going straight. Neither of these 2 issues are a big deal and have not gotten any worse over the years.
I would check it over the same as any other tractor.
Good luck and let us know how it turns out. Nick

I purchased an 1194 (basically the same tractor) a couple years back and it one of the best tractors I have used. Heavy frame construction, plenty of power for its size yet it sips fuel, fairly nimble also. I use mine to snowplow in the winter, and even sitting outside over night it will start at zero degrees without any help except from the factory installed thermostart. Look it over and check fluids and if all is good then go for it if the price is right. You won't be disappointed.

They're expecting it to go around $6300, I have not been able to look at it and not sure on hrs or condition other than the Original owners wife saying it was well maintained, not used hard and power steering replaced at factory because they "couldn't find any parts for it"...

I mainly will use it to brush hog and clear my Grandparents property and it will be replacing an Oliver 1850 gasser.

(quoted from post at 11:04:36 04/01/15) power steering replaced at factory

That statement makes no sense at all. PS pumps are hard to come by, but they certainly didn't send it back to England(THE Factory) to be repaired.

$6300 who came up with that number???? It had better be like new, with new tires.
