Look what my 9 year old dragged home

He bought it with his own money... was mad at me because I sold "HIS" DB 770. It has a spun rod, hoping the crank isn't trashed. It is as late a 870 as I have seen back east. The tag looks like a "970" though, the platform is certainly a 870 one though as it is stepped, not flat like a 9 or 10, and the bolts that hold the dash in place don't look to have ever been out.

Any ideas where the aluminum tags on the side of the hood originate? I haven't seen them there before.

It should be a good "daddy and me" project for this summer. I told him I would "help" with the rebuild and cover his parts cost if he did some fieldwork for me.

Your 9 year old sure can pull some big stuff I bet he gets no sass at school LOL

Rich, Not sure what you have there!!! If it is a late model 870 the steering sector connected to the tierods would be a fabed one that you can not bolt a dual front pedestal to. The Aluminum Logo came off an early Desert Sunset tractor and belong on the front side panal. (see the red colored pic.) As far as a stepped platform, they all were 770-1175s. (see lit from 970-1070 and a pic of our 770) The only difference when a cab was mounted to a 4cyl verses 6cyl. was which set of holes in the ROPS/CAB was used. Bottom set for 6cyl., top set lowering cab for 4cyl. Also if an open station got a dealer installed ROPS/CAB the platform mounting strutts were changed out for much heavier ones and the rear ones clamped around the rear axle. (see pics of our two 770s). The cab on our 1971 770 was taken off a late model 1070. Does the cab on yours have the air filter at the rear of the cab, or in the headliner over the steering wheel???

Loren, the "step" section on a 970-1070 bolts on, the platform is flat underneath it. On the 7-870, the step is made into the platform. Part of why the 9+10 sit higher.

I need a 9 or10 platform that isn't rusted out, you don't happen to know where there is one??? I have an extra from a 7.

The aluminum side pieces on my early tractors are all cut outs with 5 separate pieces, These are 1 solid piece, and obviously in the wrong place.

Engine serial number is a good bit higher than my 1974 970.

Fabbed steering pedestal with no provision for a narrow front.

Clamp around the axle cab pillars.

Rear cab filter

Gray cloth agri-king seat with the newer style suspension.

Plastic tool box.
