I was hoping someone would say that the cracks were a non issue I appreciate and thank you for the response, I respect your input I hope others will chime in as well. The sleeves have some noticeable wear I can catch my finger on the ridge but new sleeves are out of the question to rich for me. I may pull the pistons since I have it tore down this far I would love to know what you all think. I had a small weep from the gasket and a large oil Consumption issue. I'm in the process of evaluating the guides and rings. I did a compression check and it ran from 110 to 90 with little to no change when I squirted oil in the compression chamber A couple PSI. Could it be the rings are not seating? The valve stems measure .309 the guides are .313 to .316 This is just what I measured at the top with no ball gage. I did pour some water in the head just to see... The #4 exhaust leaked real bad and #2 had a slow exhaust leak. I'm thinking about cleaning the valves and Just lapping them Anyone? Finding the clutch sleeve and finger Is my most Important concern, Don't even know of any salvage yards or were to start looking. Any help out there?

The valve stem dia. is excellent. CASE says .0045" max clearance in the guide. .316 is "out of the ballpark". Take the rings off the pistons & slide 1 back down in the sleeve & see what you have for end gap. .020" is max. If you are at that point, you'll have to take some measurements of the sleeve ID to determine if Rings alone will cure some ills. With the valves, see what you have for margin, you'd hate to see one go down on a piston. If they are OK, start lapping & see what you have. If they won't let gas through, you have a good seat.

Well i would try that big yard in Worthington Minnesota, or the Breiwers yard near Barnesville Minnesota. Your going to shave the head a bit, to true that up too, arn't you??

I haven't checked the head for straightness yet I'm hoping I can get away with not sending it to a shop. Ill keep you updated. I do have an issue with the #4 sleeve It protrudes to a maximum of .018 above the block seems like a lot. The 3rd pic is the #4 and is looking toward the max protrusion.

(quoted from post at 06:54:31 03/21/15) This is off a 1952 case SC Need bell housing or just the clutch throw-out sleeve and 1 clutch finger and A valve grind Head gasket If you know where I can get them you can contact me @ (cell 520-507-5527) or (520-254-5590 Home) or email me [email protected]
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Did you clean the piston tops? They look really clean to me. If this engine burned a lot of oil they would be cover with a black tar. Unless you want everything cherry in this engine I wouldn't worry about the rings. I think most of the problems are in the head with the valve guides and valves. Is there a machine shop you can take your bead to have the valves ground and new guides installed? Running a nurler and reamer down those guides would also be a good fix for them.

Do you have the part that broke off the clutch? This can be welded, or brazed back on.

No I had not cleaned the piston heads. The part of the clutch sleeve attachment point was no where to be found only small shattered pieces. The tractor would still run with only the two fingers left and you would not know there was anything wrong. The clutch finger broke off 2 small pieces at the clutch sleeve attachment point and was shattered, the attachment pin I do have with the exception of one retaining ring that was broke in 2 places. Ill try and post a pic later my wife has the camera. The finger is a flat piece with a steel bushing this could be fabricated someplace.

I often wondered how many SC's have one finger broke in then. I had a 1940 model that had a broken finger, and I doubt I would have noticed it if I hadn't had to adjust the clutch. Since you already have it apart you may as well replace it.

Im waiting on pulling the pistons until I can get the tractor back in one piece I have a big chunk of wood holding the engine up and in the way. I did pull the jacks just to see if the splitting pins would hold it and it did hold no problem, however I would not crawl under it with just the pins holding it. I did measure the margin on the valves exhaust valves They are .045 to .039 the Intake valves are .032 to .016
