Took the starter off my sons 1070 to replace the starter drive and found the piece in the pic in the casting that the starter fits in. Took same starter off a couple years ago to replace solenoid seal and found a same size piece there also. Power shift doesn't want to pull in 1st power shift, but works fine in 2nd and 3rd. What is the problem and what are these pieces coming off of, torque limiter???

Steve, does that piece have brass lining on it? My first thoughts are maybe its a chunk of the C-1 disc. The early ones had slots in the disc's, and they would break apart, but usually the pieces were bigger. And if that was bad it would explain why its slips it first, but I would think it would slip in second also. Just my thoughts, Rod.

No brass on the piece. When idling in 1st power shift, the hyd. press falls off but is good idling in 2nd or 3rd. I think a piece wedged in between the starter drive and ring gear and broke the end of the starter drive. First clutch pack is visible when split? The tractor is a 78 model. I suppose I should drain the front housing and see if a magnet would pull more parts out before we waste another starter drive.

Steve I sure wish I could hold that item, would know where it is from. But you never know, it may have nothing to do with first PS slippage. If trans press drops in first PS, it is confirmed there is a leak which is more than likely the cause of slippage. Rod.
