I am new to the tractor world and i have a few questions about my older case 530ck with a shuttle shift (2 levers on either side of battery, and believe it is a case-o-matic from what i read on other post that if you can stop it with out clutch and it doesn"t stall, i think it has a torque converter?) now tractor was running/moving forward and backwards fine on flat ground but when i started up hill it didn"t go but back on flat ground it was fine (was i in wrong gear? hi/low lever not in right position?) and now it doesn"t move at all, cant get in gear it grinds, i found what i believe is the torque converter dip stick? and it doesn"t show any oil when hot? im assuming this is my issue? my question is what kind of oil dose torque converter take and what are the other oils diesel eng, diff, hydraulic? I am an auto mechanic so i have access to gear oil and atf?, also would like a little over view on how to operate tractor, where should levers be on either side of battery? there is 4 gear selections on center gear shifter and a selection marked "S" what is this for? thanks Scott

Scott - If it is a Case-O-Matic, that fluid should be checked with the tractor warmed up, and running at an idle. Those tractors do typically grind gears when engaging - you should have the engine idled down when engaging the transmission.

Regarding the oils, I believe the COM and Hydraulics are the same system (at least they are on the 530 and 630 I have) and it uses a multi-purpose oil (I am not sure what the current name is - either a TCH or Hy-Tran). Sometimes a leak in the hydraulic system will drain the oil, so the COM will not work correctly. Is the transmission overfull? I had a leak in the Eagle Hitch piston on my 630, and the COM fluid ended up there until I fixed the leak.

Hello, if your case 530ck is the same as mine it will have a torque converter and two clutches, the main clutch (left pedal)is used to change gears etc., the lockup clutch is operated by the righthand lever on the steering column this manually operates a hydraulic valve that sends oil to engage the lockup clutch (somewhat like a car)after the torque converter has gotten you moving. The manual says this is for lighter loads. The lever on left side of transmission is forward/reverse, the lever on right side is high/low range. The s position on trans is the start position it activates the interlock switch right there on top of the trans. Case TCH (torque converter hydraulic)oil or equivalent is the oil to use in the transmission- filler on side of trans,. Rear axle differential and final reduction gears take 80w-90, filler and dipstick is large hex nut on top of housing under front part of seat. The hydraulic resevoir for the loader/backhoe is in the tubular frame of the loader, there is a small pipe plug on the side near the top(6-8 inches) that you open to check level. I use multi viscosity hyd oil. Engine oil should be 10w-30,15w-40 etc. diesel engine oil depending on climate of course

well i have checked all fluids and all are full, i removed both lines on the clutch control valve and there is no pressure at all, so im going to remove the whole plate and inspect the pump, is there anything i should look for under the cover besides the obvious? ( broken gears, broken/clogged pickup tube?) anything i should know when taking off? thanks Scott.
